Golden Turmeric Latte Apple and Berry Crumble recipe

Golden Turmeric Latte Apple and Berry Crumble recipe

I love events like David Wolfe’s from last month, because I get to try the most amazing new and established plant based (vegan) superfood products.

This SugaVida turmeric latte mix made quite the impression. It was very much love at first sip so I had to stock up for home.

Turns out it’s not only seriously amazing with hot oat, almond or coconut milk, you can also make lots of recipes with it. It even sneaked its way into my Apple Berry Crumble and was so tasty, I had to jot the recipe down for you guys!

If you can’t get hold of Suga Vida, scroll to read what you can use instead. Hope you love this recipe too...

    FRUIT FILLING
    1/2 cup x Coconut sugar
    1 tbsp x Cinnamon
    1/2 cup x Hot water
4-5 x Apples, peeled and sliced
    1 cup x Frozen berries

    CRUMBLE TOPPING
1/4 cup x SugaVida Turmeric Latte Mix*
    1/2 cup Rolled oats
    1/3 cup x Buckwheat flour
    1 tbsp x Coconut sugar
    1/2 tbsp x Cinnamon
    1/2 tsp x Pink salt
1/3 cup x Juice from cooking the fruit
3 tbsp x Extra virgin coconut oil, melted

*If you can’t get hold of SugaVida, mix 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp Cinnamon, 1 tsp cardamom, pinch black pepper and 2 tbsp coconut sugar together.

Stir hot water, sugar and cinnamon in a pot over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Add the fruit, stir, reduce heat and cover with lid. Stir again after 10 minutes, repeat twice more.

Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Preferably fan baking.

Add the dry crumble ingredients to a Tupperware container, seal on the lid and shake to mix. Add the juice and oil, shake again with lid on. You may need to use your hands to rub in the liquids evenly and work the mixture till you have a crumbly dough.

Transfer all the fruit into an overproof dish, sprinkle with the crumble using your hands. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Enjoy with coconut ice cream or yogurt!

Healthy toddler diaries - the travel edition - 17 months

I was so nervous posting the last video of what I feed Lake in a day, because as you would've seen here, it revealed why I'm not bringing her up fully vegan.

Although I'm the biggest advocate for plant-based living that I know, I never actually stated in all of my years of blogging that I am 100% vegan or 100% raw for that matter myself.

But, since my blog was called 'Better Raw', the general perception was that there is no way my diet can be anything but...

I knew that when posting the video, a few people might react negatively to the news and I mentally prepared to say goodbye to a lot of subscribers.

Knowing that the most important thing to me is the health of my family and being authentic, I felt comfortable showing the world how I prepare my child her eggs 3-4 times per week, because not only have I done a mad amount of research around this topic, I also didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea and to keep following my posts believing they were following a strictly vegan mother.

As anticipated, some words no one wants to hear came my way.
As anticipated, some people unsubscribed and unfollowed.

To my shock however, the support and words of encouragement flooded in overwhelming volumes.

The amount of emails, comments and love that came our way brought me to tears.

For the millionth time in my life, the gratitude I felt towards this community was too much to bear.

Thank you for sticking around and for letting me speak my truth. I literally feel like it is YOU that I write to every time I blog. So, thank you for that.

P.S. Don't worry, I'm not going all carnivorous on you, it's only plants and eggs that we're talking here. Mostly plants though.

What is dowsing and what do I use it for?

What is dowsing and what do I use it for?

    They're here!

    They're here!
    They're here!

Nope, not excited about my parents being in London one tiny bit.

Not excited about this weekend either.

Not about David Wolfe's epic masterclass on Sunday where we are the exclusive caterer.

Not about my mum's insanely important workshop on dowsing this Saturday.

None. Of. It.  Ha! Yeah right.  In fact, these are the days I LIVE for!

My parents just landed in Heathrow for the first time in 8 years, which makes it all the more special. Then come Saturday, we will make our way to Central Working in Paddington, where my mum's workshop 'Connection with your Higher Self via dowsing' will take place 2-5pm.

A few of you have been asking about what dowsing even is and how this may be relevant to your life, so I wanted to tell you about what I do with it...

    What is it?

If you were to google 'dowsing' you will find lots of reference to a couple of L shaped sticks held with your hands and used to locate a water source.

But man, there is so much more to it! It dates to at least 16th century. Later dowsing was used to locate mines to avoid a particular route. Then it was even used by Albert Einstein, who said this:

"I know very well that many scientists consider dowsing as a type of ancient superstition. According to my conviction this is, however, unjustified. The dowsing rod is a simple instrument which shows the reaction of the human nervous system to certain factors which are unknown to us at this time."

What do I do with it?

In my coaching practice, dowsing helps my clients work out the foods they are sensitive to or whether their stubborn unwanted fat has anything to do with stored childhood memories or perhaps their low energy levels has something to do with the weight of 'evil eyes' brought on by a distant relative. Once we know the cause, we can use the dowsing rod to work out a possible treatment.

For my own personal use, dowsing is a tool I utilise for almost anything.

When we travel, I check whether the fruits I'm buying are organic. If they aren't, I can do a further check on whether they are safe for me and my family (on a recent trip, a pineapple showed up to be 90% safe for me, but only 10% safe for Lake. No doubt, more chemicals were used in agriculture than her tiny clean digestive tract could handle)...

I use a dowsing rod to check whether I'm lacking any minerals and which supplement is necessary. I even take it to a health store and use it to check exactly which brand and type of say Magnesium is required for my body. I then use it to check how many capsules, how many times a day and what duration will be required to take those supplements till my system is stabilised. You get the idea.

Aside from diet, I can use the dowsing rod to confirm that the home we're looking to move to is 100% suitable for my family and if not 100%, then whether the schooling, future capitals gains, bad energy vortex of the land it's on, bad neighbours or poor construction quality have anything to do with why it's not a suitable home for us.

I can check if I need to run Lake to the doctor, if my bloated stomach has anything to do with what I ate or how I combined the ingredients, if it is safe to travel somewhere, if I should go ahead with the business deal, etc etc etc.

BTW, it's not as straight forward as a Yes or No answer and the art of formulating a question correctly is something that takes time to master. Even interpreting an answer can be tricky, because the answer can be produced against your intuition and turn out to be merely a suggestion for taking a certain route because it is the only way to teach you an important lesson.

This is where my mum, Lena Alekseeva, comes in!

And she's not only here this Saturday to help you receive answers to some of your burning spiritual, diet, wellness, relationship or finance related questions, she is here to teach you how to enquire with the Universe at any time at all.

She will teach you how to use a dowsing rod, how to tune it to your energy, how to formulate a correct question and how to interpret the answer.

    Pretty fricken cool.

As for this Sunday, my parents will be with me in York Hall, Bethnal Green, helping to run the Tanya's organic lunch stall at David Wolfe's masterclass.

Rainbow Pad Thai with crunchy veggies, kelp noodles and a creamy peanut butter satay sauce; Falafel Goodness Bowl with cashew cucumber tzatziki and the best quinoa kale olive tabouli you'll ever taste; and more!

Many of you have been asking to see the full menu, so I posted it here>>

Finally, a big Happy Birthday to all the September babies of the world! We for sure deliver more cakes in September than any other time of year, but it's also a known fact that there are more babies born at the end of September than any other month. Official birth records prove that the Christmas spirit of festivities and goodwill play quite the role in shaping our population!

So there you have it, an update and a fact for you! You can't say I don't bring value through my blog posts :)

33 Prayers for my Daughter on my Jesus Year Birthday

33 Prayers for my Daughter on my Jesus Year Birthday

    Today is my birthday.

    I've always loved birthdays.

I've never been able to see how I could not, especially that there is so much to be grateful for in this life.

Plus we are all getting older at exactly the same rate. It's just up to us to decide how youthful we choose to feel and I choose to feel pretty damn youthful!

Today I'm turning a perfectly ripe and glorious age of 33. Some refer to it as Jesus Year or Year of Christ. (See this post for a full explanation>>)

33 is also significant in numerology, where it represents the Master Teacher. As well as that this 2017 year is the 1 Universal Year (be ready to have your mind blown if you're still not familiar with what that means>>).

So I put it all together and for the first birthday in as long as I can possibly remember, today I choose to take the day off!

Now you may be wondering how it's a day off when I'm here at Tanya's giving out FREE CAKE all day, but let's be honest- you can hardly call that work!

The real break for me happens because I'm not on my emails or monitoring an annual birthday sale (sorry guys, you'll have to wait till Xmas!), instead I'm sitting here in a total day dream full of blissful thoughts that are devoted to my daughter.

    Lake Maher

My sweet, kind, beautiful, gentle Lady Lakey Lake,

On my Jesus Year, I make 33 wishes for you and I list them like a Prayer...

1.May you love birthdays. May you adore celebrating the special people in your life and especially, especially you. No matter the number of candles on your cake.

2.May you make big bold wishes. Many of them. And not just on your birthday.

3.May you daydream, make vision boards, keep a diary, write gratitude lists, keep promises, play with your food, pray, meditate, recite affirmations, believe in miracles and in love at first sight.

4.May you be quick to make a decision. And may you be gentle on yourself if it doesn't turn out to be the best one.

5.May you not be afraid of change. May you embrace it and celebrate it!

6.May you travel the world and feel at home no matter where you go. And may you view each day through a tourist's eye even in your home town.

7.May you phone your parents, your siblings and your grandparents any chance you get. May you always look for that chance.

8.May you look in the mirror and see a Goddess, a Lioness, a kind gentle non-judgemental soul. May you never look in the mirror wishing for a different reflection.

9.May you love life in bikinis. And out of bikinis.

    10.May you eat dessert first.

11.May you adore eating a rainbow of plants. Not just because your mama told you but because you've done your research and you love your body and it just makes you feel so damn good. Eat to feel good. Every. Single. Time.

12.May you fall in love so insanely outrageously deep, that your bones zap with electricity seeing them across the room, your body hurts from tingles hearing their name, your knees wobble catching their gaze, you don't hear a word of the film on your date, because your heart is beating too loudly, you'd rather your arm fall off than untangle your fingers from theirs, time does not exist and nothing is as important as staying up all night starring at the sky together.

13.May you always be loved in return.

14.May you give genuine compliments, pray for others, share your light, smile at strangers, know the power of intention and celebrate victories of others.

15.May you attract all the luck in the world. May you realise how you've done it and may you teach others to do the same.

16.May you relish in the thrill of jumping out of aeroplanes, flying down ski slopes, diving into oceans, sitting in the front seat of a roller coaster and bouncing on trampolines.

17.May you also get great satisfaction in discovering stillness, the magic of a quiet place, the comfort of your own company. And may you know a love so pure and true, that sitting side by side in silence for hours doesn't feel like hours at all. It just feels like home.

18.May you love to meditate but not necessary in a lotus position, rather in your own way. May you find that way early on.

19.May you find yourself outdoors, breathing in moonlight and dancing under the stars. May you find yourself there often.

20.May you chase the sun and may it chase you.

21.May you find your hair salty at all times of the year, may your skin forever stay golden and vacation vibes fill your heart every day.

    22.May you love Mondays.

23.May you know how to say sorry first.

    24.May you forgive easily.

25.May you say yes often and know when to say no. May you do both with confidence, knowing your self-worth.

26.May you know your guardian angels by their names.

27.May you always be safe. And always feel free.

28.May you never take anything personally. Or for granted.

29.May you work hard. Especially on your happiness and on creating your own luck. May everything come to you with ease.

30.May you enjoy arts and crafts, or baking, face painting, cake decorating, singing, playing an instrument, DIY, photography, balloon sculpting, dancing, drawing, clay moulding, writing, poetry, or anything and everything that keeps your creative side of the brain busy. And may you never feel criticised for your art. Never ever.

31.May you be the most positive person you know.

32.May you know Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Erik Clapton, Mother Teresa, Shakespeare (William, not your Tortoise, but your Tortoise too!), Johnny Cash, Princess Diana, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, Michael Jackson, Einstein, Eminem, The Dalai Lama, Sade and Deepak Chopra.

    33.May you know God.
